Councillor Jonathan Wedgbury

Harston is a special community full of friendly people and lovely amenities which we as residents all use and benefit from, with great proximity to Cambridge and London.

I work full time as a compliance professional in the investment management industry and hope to bring to bear some of the skills I have gained from my career to support the work of the Parish Council.

My interest as a Councillor is to help in the upkeep, stewardship and maintenance of the village and community, keeping Harston a wonderful, welcoming and thriving place to live.

Councillor Irene Richards

I have lived in Harston with my daughter for just over 4 and a half years. I joined the Harston Residents Group soon after arriving and, quickly, became engaged with helping to develop the successful Harston Neighbourhod Plan. Being a part of this working group gave me a unique knowledge and insight into our Village which serves me well in my new role.
I have wide local government experience both in Australia and in the London Borough of Enfield where I served on various committees. For my services to the community and safeguarding I was awarded a B.E.M by the late Queen Elizabeth in the 2022 New Year’s Honours List.
I am by qualification a BA (Hons) Open University, and a Librarian and a Teacher. My interests are in writing poetry and listening to classical music. I believe in lifelong learning.
Serving one’s community is a concept that I have always tried to put into action.

Councillor Rupert Pearce Gould

I have lived in Harston for 34 years. I am also a member of a Cambridge College. I have a degree in engineering from Cambridge University and am a retired Chartered Accountant. I have acted as  Trustee  on a number of Charities including both a medical charity and an educational charity. I have acted as finance director on a number of Boards including the owners of Harston Mill. As such I have been involved in many strategic plans.

I believe in good governance and the Nolan Principles when in public roles. Harston is at a point of inflection in its life as an independent village unit and needs a plan to re-establish its own identity.

I moved to Harston in 2002 so that my family and I could enjoy the sense of community in the village and be able to access the many walking / cycling routes in the surrounding countryside whilst benefiting from Harston’s proximity to Cambridge. As a Councillor, an area that I am particularly interested in is the provision of sport-related amenities for all age ranges and would like to try to broaden the range of sport-related facilities that the village has.

I work full-time for a global IT consultancy and hope that my commercial and programme management experience may be of value in some of the projects that the Parish Council plans to undertake.

Councillor Paul Ormerod

I have been a resident in Harston for over 30 years, bringing up our four children here, three of whom still live in Cambridge.

I am now retired but worked with Scientific_Genrics, the precursor to Sagentia, in the first half of the 1990s. Subsequently developed and delivered programmes for the London based Centre for Science and Technology. From around 2003 I founded a small communications specialist company that worked mainly with the EU to publicise its R&D programmes. From 2013 I co-founded Limetools which made digital media that explained climate change, entrepreneurship and innovation management, working around Europe and South East Asia. Also developed multimedia tools to drive behaviour change  focused on climate related issues.

Though retired I am still keenly interested in and engaged with sustainability, climate change, energy use and transport issues, specifically currently examining the business case for East West Rail. I remain committed to working on these issues with Harston Residents, within the Parish Council, and in a wider regional context.
